I wrote a short story and I can’t wait to share this!
This short story came alive in a different way. I was inspired by a song!
I’m not gonna lie, Beast of Zarall is a bit rough (ask my poor beta readers, they’re still recovering). It’s also very action-packed with almost no romance and lot’s of tension, violence, and high stakes. Everything you would expect from an adult dark fantasy epic.
So I wanted to write something nice and heartwarming to balance out the pending emotional trauma. And then I heard this song:
This song made me think about Lion and Saradra. I remembered that in Lion of Zarall, they were cooped up in Lion’s room for 4 whole days just before the coup. That’s 4 peaceful, beautiful days they spent together.
And then I thought what if…
What if Saradra made Lion dance with her?
What if Lion was so awkward about it?
What if they had to be absolutely quiet and careful?
And what if, despite all that, they managed to lose themselves in a whispered melody, just for a few precious minutes?
This short story is a quiet interlude. A stolen breath between all the chaos and pain. It’s an optional read for those who is in it for the characters and who need a break from the blood and violence.
